Food Pantries are Becoming a Common Thing On College Campuses

Food pantries are becoming a common thing to help with food security on college campuses. Though there is not an official count of how many food pantries are out there on college campuses, the membership in the College and University Food Bank Alliance has quadrupled in the past two years.

Now there is currently +398 members within the College and University Food Bank Alliance. It is reported that while the economy has rebounded, the cost of college continues to rise faster than income. CNN has reported that the average total cost rose 10% over the past five years at public colleges and by 12% at private institutions. Median family income rose just 7% over the same time period.

I hope to see more schools becoming members of the College and University Food Bank Alliance. I want to see food pantries across each campus on both private and public colleges and universities. I will continue to keep you all updated.
